Troubleshooting Problems With Your Lawn Mower
Your trusty lawn mower helps you to accomplish your weekend grass-cutting goals with as little fuss as possible. But what happens when your mower isn’t working like it should? Since you may experience some of these common problems while trying to use your mower, we’ve provided some helpful troubleshooting tips to get you back to work.
1. Your Starting Cord Is Stuck
Can’t pull the rope that starts your mower? You may need to check the engine’s flywheel brake to ensure that it it’s not engaged. The blade may also be dragging on the ground or very dirty.
2. Your Mower Loses Power
Has your mower ever sputtered to a stop in the middle of your yard? You may have a dirty filter that requires cleaning or replacement. The blade itself might also be dirty, or a spark plug may have blown.
3. Your Mower Billows Smoke
A blue or black cloud of smoke is not something you want your mower to emit. The likely cause is simply an excessively full oil chamber. There may be a leak that is causing oil to pour onto the hot muffler, which turns into smoke. Turn your mower off, let it cool down, and then check your oil chamber to make sure it isn’t broken and that the cap is secured.
